Welcome to “The View From the Market!”
Years ago, when I worked for the city’s tourism department, there was one question I never felt I could adequately answer: “What is the City Market?”
It’s not that I didn’t know the answer. It’s that there’s no quick and easy response to that. The Saint John City Market is something that really has to be experienced in order to be understood. It is a mixture of customers, merchants, sights and sounds, all gathered together under one historic roof. It’s a community, but it’s more than that. It’s a living, breathing entity in and of itself — forever changing, always engaging, and never the same experience twice.
My mission for this blog is to try and share the experience of the Market, as best I can — to introduce the Market to people who have never been here, to give Saint Johners tidbits of information they may not have known, and to provide a glimpse of “home” for those who have moved away.
“What is the City Market?” Please allow me to introduce you.
